Adopt a Campus

Become a Hero for a Head Start campus.

Your time, your dollars, or both. There are lots of ways to help a Head Start or Early Head Start campus near you — starting at $500, or with your time in a classroom.

✓ Hero levels from $500 to $100,000
✓ Volunteer activities for individuals and corporate teams
✓ Fulfill a Medi-Cal or other volunteer requirement
What It Means

Your time, your dollars — or both.

CommUnify operates 18 Head Start and Early Head Start centers across Santa Barbara County. Adopting a campus means taking one of them under your wing — volunteering in its classrooms, funding a specific need, or both.

You don’t have to fund a whole center. Every Hero level below meets a concrete need at a campus — art supplies, a reading corner, a teacher breakfast, backpacks for graduation day. Most levels are a range, so tell us what you have in mind.

Hero Levels

Lots of little ways to help — and a few big ones.

16 Hero levels, each meeting a concrete need at a Head Start campus. Pick the one that fits and email Development to adopt it.

$500 – $1,500

Supply Hero

  • Help us refresh and expand our art, toy, and music supplies to keep the children engaged.
  • Create a reading corner and we’ll name it after you! Your donation will enable us to purchase a cozy chair, or rug, and books which the children can read at school or check out to take home. The majority of books are bilingual (English and Spanish).

  • Your sponsorship will help us provide a special breakfast celebration for the teachers at one campus, plus we will provide them with a small gift card.

Back-to-School Hero

  • Backpacks are expensive and so are new shoes. We’d love to be able to equip all of our children transitioning out of Head Start to TK or kindergarten with these items.
  • Our teens who are headed back to school also need backpacks, school supplies, and sometimes new shoes or a new outfit.
  • Your sponsorship will empower these children and youth as they return to school. Kids that feel better about themselves do better.

$5,000 – $10,000

Teacher Appreciation Day Hero all campuses

Same as the Teacher Appreciation Day Hero for one campus, but you would enable us to shower all of our teachers across the county with gratitude and appreciation by sponsoring this need.

  • Offer on-site cooking demonstrations with local chefs and nutrition experts that are focused on low-cost, easy-to-prepare and healthy meals.

Diaper Hero

Diapers are expensive! They cost an average of $25 per package, so $10,000 = 400 diaper packages, enough to diaper one family’s infant or toddler for a full year, or to help cover the needs of one of our infant/toddler classrooms. Our parents will thank you!

Safety-first Hero

Help us furnish our Head Start centers with at least one extra car seat that can be loaned out to families in case of an emergency (such as ICE raids that prevent a parent from picking up their child) or pick up by an authorized family member who may not have a car seat.

Volunteer With Us

If you have time, we’d love to get you involved.

Here is a list of sample volunteer activities at our Head Start centers.

  • Storytime (reading to the children)
  • Share your musical or artistic talents with the children
  • Gardening with the children
  • Doing science projects with the children
  • Leading stretching and yoga/breathing circles
  • Help the teachers organize the classrooms while the children are outside playing
  • Help our cooks prepare lunch or snacks (each campus has its own cook and kitchen, but we can always use a “sous-chef”!)
  • Participate in a beautification day at one of the centers. This may involve helping to paint, clean up the outside classroom area, put together new furniture at the beginning of the school year, cleaning tables, books, and toys, and other tasks.

These are great activities for corporate teams!

Volunteering with us can also help you fulfill a Medi-Cal or other requirements.

Volunteers may be screened and vetted.
